!!!!!!!!!! CANCELLED !!!!!!!!!!!!! ESCADA GOES FURFREE !!!!!!!!!!
Campaign continues - Action Weekend October 15th - 17th
In June 2010 the German luxury concern ESCADA announced to abandon the selling of fur products. As we came to see now, a false promise. Within the winter collection Escada will sell fur again. Escada abandons the usage of certain real fur products only, rabbit fur and karakul will apparently still be part of their collections. The company is therewith still supporting the fur-trade and is responsible for the killing of countless non-human animals. We therefore call up on every activist to not accept this decision and to take part in an action-weekend from October 15th - 17th.
Talking is over ...
Escada´s statement sounded promising: „With the Pre-Fall 2010 Collection, that has been available in the stores since May 2010, Escada does not use farmed fur anymore.“ Indeed, in the Summer and Pre-Fall Collection of both Escada and Escada Sport there were no real fur products to be found. Nevertheless, the exact meaning of the term “farmed fur” stayed unclear. The protest was stopped temporarily, in order to communicate with the management. The campaign tried to clarify, if they really stopped selling any kind of real fur product. But the management appeared to be uncooperative: E-mails were answered superficially, the latest official statement of Escada: Fur from animals bred for the meat production will still be used. Obviously the company does not want to clarify which animal species exactly they mean, but we know: Being fur-free looks different, Escada keeps on profiting from the fur industry´s violence.
... action is on ...
We have to assume that Escada´s press release was a wilful deceit of the critical public, in order to get rid of legitimate protesting against their business policy. In statements Escada refers to the argumentation, that they never wanted to abandon all fur products out of their range, but only those that come from animals bred for their fur only. While the fur of minks will indeed not be used any longer, Escada has still non-human animals killed for their fur. Innumerable rabbits are caged on farms, in order to profit from their fur. Escada will possibly still assign to kill young, partly unborn sheep for the production of karakul fur. Our demand on the company is to stop the usage of every single real fur product. We will not end the protest before this aim is reached and we therewith come one step closer to the abolition of the fur industry as a whole. Obviously, Escada was set under pressure through our protesting. Let us make this company fur-free!
... until every cage is empty!
We call for an action weekend from October 15th - 17th. We want to make our demands clear through varied and strident protests. Organize actions in your cities, mobilize activists in every part of the world and see to it that Escada has no chance left than to abandon every single fur product.
In the meantime contact the responsible persons at Escada: write e-mails and letters, in which we state clearly that the usage and killing of non-human animals can´t be justified. Find contact addresses at the following link: http://antifur-campaign.org/escadabackground.php?lang=en
If Escada does not use the announcement of further protests as an opportunity to stop selling fur products, we ask you to continue the campaign by every means!
